Chairman Paul Sobel, Guest Speaker at IIA Malaysia Conference and Graduation Ceremony
IIA Chairman of the Board Paul Sobel, CIA, CRMA, visited IIA Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur from 20-21 March to participate in two events hosted by that Institute: the Standing Up for Better Governance conference and the Institute’s graduation ceremony. During his visit, Sobel and IIA Malaysia President Ranjit Singh were interviewed by two local media outlets: Bernama, government news agency of Malaysia, and New Strait Times.
The conference attracted more than 280 participants, largely representing audit committee and board members. Sobel spoke on the role CAEs play in enhancing corporate governance, and he participated in a panel discussion on how GRC can enhance good governance.
At the graduation ceremony, which recognized 70 members who obtained IIA certifications in the past year, Sobel presented his chairman’s theme, Imagine the Possibilities, to attendees. This theme encourages internal auditors and audiences around the world to imagine the possibilities for the internal audit profession in this increasingly complex and global business environment.
Overall, both events were well received. The conference demonstrated IIA Malaysia’s commitment to advance good governance in Malaysia and the graduation ceremony showed commitment to advancing personal development through certification. Sobel commended IIA Malaysia as the Institute “… continues to host valuable events, which shows their commitment to advancing the internal audit profession.”
