New IIARF Release Focuses on Importance of Relationship Acumen

CAE Strategic Relationships: Building Rapport with the Executive Suite captures the insights of in-depth interviews with 27 executives from 13 leading organizations in Europe and the United States to learn how relationships among organizational leaders can be leveraged to maximize performance.

The subjects were evenly split between chief audit executives and stakeholders in the executive management suite. The interviews were structured around the relational coordination framework, a leading strategy for collaboration and communication developed at Brandeis University. Responses indicated that when high-quality communication strategies are employed, it creates trusted relationships between the CAE and senior executives, helps align and manage expectations, and leads to greater internal audit performance effectiveness.

Through CAE Strategic Relationships: Building Rapport with the Executive Suite,  readers will learn how to apply the relational coordination framework to internal auditing to develop strong relationships based on the three key dimensions of the model:

  • Shared goals
  • Shared knowledge
  • Mutual respect

The key takeaway is that developing strong relationship acumen is equal in importance to any other skills set an executive can possess.
