IIA Honors a Lifetime of Leadership

Bishop Award celebrates Denny Beran’s professional dedication

SYDNEY (July 27, 2017) — The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) recognized a “role model” in the internal audit profession earlier this week at the organization’s 2017 International Conference.

The IIA honored Denny Beran, CIA, CCSA, CRMA, QIAL, with the William G. Bishop III, CIA Lifetime Achievement Award. Beran joins a prestigious group of internal audit practitioners who have received the award since its formal establishment in 2004.

The award acclaims individuals who, through a lifetime of accomplishments and dedication to The IIA, have impacted the practice of internal auditing, advanced awareness of The IIA, and inspired professionals around the world to make a difference in the profession and organization.

Beran has decades of experience in the profession, including more than 40 years at JCPenney Co., where he was Chief Audit Executive (CAE) until his retirement. He also has held a long list of local and international IIA positions, including serving twice on the Executive Committee and was IIA Global Board Chairman in 2011-12.

Last year, Beran spearheaded The IIA’s 75th anniversary celebration, which included development of the Museum of Internal Auditing at IIA headquarters in Lake Mary, Fla. He was awarded the Bradford Cadmus Memorial Award in 2016.

“Denny is a role model in our profession and within The IIA,” said 2016-17 IIA Global Chairman Angela Witzany, CIA, QIAL, CRMA. “He is a passionate leader who is held in high esteem, especially by those of us who have had the opportunity to work alongside him.”
