Internal Auditor Named Magazine of the Year

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Florida Magazine Association (FMA) named Internal Auditor (Ia) magazine “2013 Magazine of the Year” at its annual Charlie Awards Gala. The awards ceremony was held Aug. 2 at the Disney Yacht and Beach Club in Orlando, Fla.

FMA, the largest state magazine association in the United States, added the Magazine of the Year Award to its annual awards lineup just last year "to bestow a pinnacle of achievement on a single title published in Florida."

"We are very proud," says Richard Chambers, president and CEO of The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), the professional association that publishes the magazine. "We do everything we can to make the magazine valuable to our professionals, and it consistently gets named by our members as The IIA's No. 1 member service."

The panel of judges, which include U.S. national representatives from the publishing field, selected Ia magazine from a field of nearly 700 entries based on its effectiveness in fulfilling its mission statement.

"This award and the criteria by which Ia was selected further strengthen the magazine’s role as the leading publication to provide internal auditors with the cutting-edge information and practices they need to do their jobs," says Editor in Chief Anne Millage.

In addition to winning the evening's top honor, Ia received six awards in the “Trade/Technical” category:

  • Best Overall Magazine, Charlie Award
  • Best Overall Design, Charlie Award
  • Best Feature Design, "Fear Factor," Charlie Award, Yacinski Design
  • Best Feature Design, "Avoiding Burnout," Silver Award, Yacinski Design
  • Best Department (Writing Excellence), "Update," Silver Award
  • Best Cover, "Staying Ahead of IT Risks," Bronze Award, Yacinski Design

"We congratulate Internal Auditor, one of the state's standout magazines year after year, on this richly deserved accolade," says FMA President Kevin Kaminski.

FMA's annual Charlie Awards competition has been recognizing the achievements of Florida magazines since 1957. The awards honor publishers, writers, editors, artists, photographers, printers, marketers, and others as the best among their peers. Hundreds of entries compete for Charlie, Silver, and Bronze awards.
