New Internal Auditing Scholarships Announced

Internal Auditor magazine sponsors scholarship essay contests

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. (Feb. 1, 2016) — Internal Auditor magazine, the world’s leading publication covering the internal audit profession, is looking to help mold the next generation of practitioners with six new scholarships announced this week. Each US$1,000 scholarship is offered to undergraduate and graduate students who write the most informative and intuitive essay on specific internal audit subjects.

“New internal audit practitioners must have a deep understanding of the complex challenges and risks facing modern business almost as soon as they walk in the door on their first day of work,” said Anne Millage, Internal Auditor editor in chief. “These scholarship essay subjects will test their knowledge of the profession and the internal auditor’s role in the 21st century.”

Indeed, organizations are feeling pressure to act quickly and boldly in an increasingly dynamic and fast-paced global marketplace. Opportunities are fleeting; new risks develop overnight; and the battle to attract and retain the best employees has become constant.

Newly minted internal audit graduates will be greeted by this volatile and challenging work environment. Will they be ready to step up?

The scholarship essays challenge applicants to examine important topics covering six aspects of the profession, from the importance of recent changes to the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) to the profession’s use of analytics, to the risks and opportunities associated with the Internet of Things.

Essays turned in during specific topic submission periods, starting Feb. 1, will be judged by members of The Institute of Internal Auditors’ Publications Advisory Committee. Authors of the six winning essays will receive a US$1,000 scholarship, and three finalists for each essay topic will receive a complimentary one-year student membership to The IIA. The winning essays will be published online on InternalAuditor.org.

The IIA has long supported academic relations through its Internal Audit Academic Awareness Program and the Internal Auditing Education Partnership (IAEP), which were created to encourage development of stellar learning opportunities for students interested in internal audit careers.
