IIA Marks 75th Anniversary at International Conference
Internal auditor organization returns to its founding city for milestone celebration
NEW YORK (July 18, 2016) — The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is celebrating its 75th anniversary at the organization’s International Conference in the city of its inception. Over more than seven momentous decades, The IIA became the largest global membership association for the internal audit profession and now boasts more than 185,000 members worldwide.
“I am thrilled to be back in New York to celebrate The IIA’s 75th anniversary,” said IIA President and CEO Richard Chambers, CIA, QIAL, CGAP, CCSA, CRMA. “Only 11 members attended the first meeting here in 1941, and now more than 2,500 delegates, speakers, and staff are present for our International Conference, demonstrating The IIA’s remarkable growth and achievements.”
As part of the milestone celebration, The IIA will host a 75th Anniversary Gala for delegates on the second full day of the International Conference. Attendees will experience some of New York’s talented musicians, singers, and dancers as the organization celebrates its diamond anniversary.
The IIA produced a book, Celebrating Our Past…Inspiring the Future: 75 Years of Advancing the Internal Audit Profession, to further commemorate the milestone. Each conference delegate will receive a copy, and additional copies will be available for purchase at The IIA bookstore in the Javits Center, the conference location.
The IIA will also display a commemoration of its history at the conference — a temporary installation of its 75th Anniversary Museum exhibit. The exhibit is part of the Museum of Internal Audit, newly housed at The IIA’s Lake Mary, Fla., office.
Finally, The IIA created an anniversary website, to provide a comprehensive overview of the organization’s 75th anniversary, celebrating internal audit’s prominent figures and defining moments.
