The IIA's 2017 Gaming & Hospitality Conference

2017 Gaming & Hospitality Conference

The 2017 Gaming & Hospitality Conference was attended by nearly 300 delegates. The dynamic program focused on hospitality, hotel, and entertainment internal auditing in addition to casino, tribal, and online gaming auditing. The event offered a refreshingly wide scope of educational and networking opportunities for attendees from both industries, which share some common ground.

Toby GrovesA pre-conference workshop, Innovative, Creative, and Strategic Thinking for Internal Auditors, led by Jacquelyn Wieland, CEO and founder of Solutions Provided, LLC, set the tone and tempo of this one-of-a-kind event. The conference kicked off with Who Do You Trust? The Psychology of Professional Skepticism, a keynote session presented by Toby Groves, a cognitive scientist who investigates the cognitive science of expert judgment. Groves teaches expert decision makers to tap hidden cognitive networks to maximize their powers of reasoning.

This year’s 24 general and concurrent sessions focused on “Driving Success in Gaming and Hospitality Audit.” Topics ranged from Managing Stakeholders’ Expectations to Sound Bites: Cybersecurity – Leading Practices for Auditors. All three educational tracks were facilitated by internal audit professionals well respected within their industries. Each session leader offered insights and experiences that attendees found relatable and relevant.

Jerry Jellison
The event wrapped up Thursday afternoon with the closing keynote, Changing by Doing: A New Way to Change, by Dr. Jerry Jellison, professor emeritus, University of Southern California (USC) and current chairman, USC Credit Union. He encouraged attendees to explore the power of positive doing and learn to use a new action-based approach to change.

Delegates left the event with up to 15.6 CPE credits and winning strategies for positive outcomes.

The IIA would like to thank our sponsors and exhibitor and would like to invite you to next year’s event.
